If your radio station is going to make great strides it needs two things, a dream and a team. More than ever your employee is looking for a cause to be involved in. Your dream can only become a reality if you have a great team that is working passionately on making future goals become something that is tangible. The two cannot live without each other.
I love how John Maxwell describes a dream. “THE RIGHT AND WRONG PICTURE OF A DREAM I’ve studied successful people for almost forty years. I’ve known hundreds of high-profile people who achieved big dreams. And I’ve achieved a few dreams of my own. What I’ve discovered is that a lot of people have misconceptions about dreams. Take a look at many of the things that people pursue and call dreams in their lives: Daydreams—Distractions from Current Work Pie-in-the-Sky Dreams—Wild Ideas with No Strategy or Basis in Reality Bad Dreams—Worries that Breed Fear and Paralysis Idealistic Dreams—The Way the World Would Be If You Were in Charge Vicarious Dreams—Dreams Lived Through Others Romantic Dreams—Belief that Some Person Will Make You Happy Career Dreams—Belief that Career Success Will Make You Happy Destination Dreams—Belief that a Position, Title, or Award Will Make You Happy Material Dreams—Belief that Wealth or Possessions Will Make You Happy If these aren’t good dreams—valid ones worthy of a person’s life—then what are? Here is my definition of a dream that can be put to the test and pass: a dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, will, and emotions, empowering you to do everything you can to achieve it.”
― John C. Maxwell, Put Your Dream to the Test: 10 Questions to Help You See It and Seize It
A couple of times a year, slow down and dare to dream with your staff. See how you are doing on your current objectives in order to make your dream become a reality. Throughout the year spend time with your team and celebrate the milestones so they can feel the small victories happening on a regular basis. Allow your team to experience the DNA that makes up your radio station.
Investing in your team takes both time and resources but in the long run it always pays off. Its important to remember you cannot achieve your dream by yourself but only with a healthy passionate team who embraces the dream.
Here’s 5 tips to getting to your dream.
1.) Be positive. There are no bad ideas. You can build on the idea’s that your team comes up with.
2.) Figure out God’s Vision. If you don’t know where you are going, it’s like running on a tread mill. You stay busy, you are running but you are going no where fast. Don’t waste your life fulfilling someone else’s dreams and desires. You must follow your intuition and make a decision.
3.) Surround yourself with a great team. Find your tribe and work on impacting everyones life. Who you hang out with will impact your dream and vision. Seth Godin has a great book on Tribes.
4.) Make life easy. Life can be complicated and we need to make getting to our goals easy and streamlined for your team. As Oscar Wilde once said, “Life is not complex. We are complex. Life is simple, and the simple thing is the right thing.”
5.) Work on the things you can change. Don’t spend time working on things that cannot be changed today. Look for what you can do today. So often our dreams are so big we fail to work on them, we become overwhelmed. It’s small steps that lead to a great journey.
Get working on your dream and your team today and make 2016 an unbelievable great year.
